Activity Overview

The Children's Museum of Oak Ridge features educational exhibits and programs for children of all ages. It is located just 30 miles outside of Knoxville in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Its hands-on exhibits focus on a diverse array of topics that include the rainforest, trains, life in Appalachia, the history of Knoxville, foreign cultures, birds, dolls, crafts, and the Arctic. Your child is sure to have a blast exploring the museum and learning about the fascinating world we live in!

Things to Do

  • Visit the Nature Walk exhibit, where you can learn about ancient sea creatures, beach creatures like sand dollars and sea stars, and interesting mammals like mountain lions and black bears.
  • Check out the International Hall exhibit, which features fascinating artifacts from world cultures, including African musical instruments and traditional Japanese dolls.
  • Travel to the past in the At Home in Appalachia exhibit, where you'll hear the story of two fictional children and their life in a log cabin in the late 1800s and learn about activities like quilting, weaving, and planting vegetables.
  • Take your little one to Toddlers' Playtime on Tuesday between 10:00 a.m. and noon, where they can make new friends, build with blocks, dig for dinosaur fossils, and do tons of other fun activities.
