Activity Overview

The Eugene Field House and St. Louis Toy Museum is both a wonderful building and fascinating museum in the city of St. Louis, Missouri. The building itself was constructed in 1829 and is the only remaining building from a group of similar houses known as Walsh's Row.

The house was credited as the birthplace of Eugene Field, a famous 19th-century writer and poet who specialized in poetry for children and humor. In fact, despite a declaration by Mark Twain stating that the building was Field's birthplace, this was incorrect. Twain was corrected but chose to ignore this fact and an inaccurate plaque can still be seen at the building.

In 2007 the attraction was designated as a National Historic Landmark as well as a City of St. Louis Landmark.
