Activity Overview

See what life on the Blackland Prairie was like in the late 19th and early 20th century by visiting the Heritage Farmstead Museum. Located just 20 miles north of downtown Dallas, the museum is home to more than 10,000 objects that tell the tale of life in North Texas in the Victorian Era.

The museum gives the entire family a chance to discover the tools, furnishing and domestic accessories of the pioneers. Besides the museum, the children can also enjoy a faux cow that they can milk, a replica of an old one-room schoolhouse and a blacksmith shop.

Live animals can also be seen on the farm, giving the little ones a chance to familiarize with chickens, cows, and sheep.

Things to Do

  • The children are welcome to feed the chicken and milk the faux cow
  • Everyone can engage in some of the chores that keep this working farm up and going
  • Party games from the Victorian period are organized on the lawn every day.

Heritage Farmstead Museum Insider Tips

  • Don't miss the impressive collection of Victorian Era textiles and costumes
  • Tours are available for small groups and a reservation is required for groups larger than 6 people.
  • An Easter Egg Hunt takes place at the farm every spring. Check the website of the museum to see the dates for the current year.
