Activity Overview

The Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC. memorizes and commemorates the victims of the Holocaust, the museum tells fearsome and appalling story of cruelty and inhumane treatment that lasted for many years. The history of the persecution of the Jews by the Nazis from 1933 to 1945 is depicted by moving exhibits and theater presentations. The Holocaust museum features three stories of permanent exhibitions, and the Hall of Remembrance. Although museum content is not suitable for younger kids, kids aged 11 and above will be engaged in an interesting exhibit about a Jewish kid, Daniel, who survived the Holocaust. Self guided tours of the museum are open everyday.

Things to Do

  • Visit the museum and explore the Holocaust exhibition that spans three floors of the museum, the permanent exhibition has three main parts.
  • The Nazi assault examines the rise of the Nazis in Germany; the final solution and the last chapter, the final solution depicts the victory of the allied forces over the Nazi forces in 1945.
  • The exhibits narrate the story through artifacts, videos, photographs, and personal stories.
  • Children would be interested in the Daniel's story exhibit, see a film and hear Daniel's survival story, at the end children could write down what they felt about the exhibition.
  • Entry to the museum is free, however visitors are required to attain a pass online while visiting in March through August.
  • You can also visit the museum shop and the library. Don't forget to take your children to the Hall of Remembrance.
  • Museum cafe is open everyday and serves breakfast, soups, salads, sandwiches, pizza, beverages and desserts.
