Activity Overview

Don't miss out on a tour of the building where our government was born. Independence Hall was completed in 1753 to serve as the home for the new province of Pennsylvania.

The Second Continental Congress met from 1775 to 1783 in Independence Hall, and the Constitutional Convention was held there in the summer of 1787. Most notably, the Founding Fathers gathered to debate, finalize and sign the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution in one of the Hall's rooms.

Things to Do

  • Check out the Liberty Bell Center and Independence Hall. Visitors with more time to explore will discover gems like Congress Hall and the Franklin Court Printing Office. Begin your visit at the Independence Visitor Center.
  • Watch a short video on Independence Hall's historic bell tower.
  • See the original inkstand used in the signing of the Declaration of Independence along with the original draft of the U.S. Constitution.

Independence Hall Insider Tips

  • Free tickets are required and available at the Independence Visitor Center, sometimes selling out by 1:00 p.m during the busy season.
  • Parking is available at the Independence Visitor Center located at 6th and Market Streets. Enter this underground garage on either 5th or 6th Street, between Market and Arch Streets. Parking is also available at the parking garage on 2nd Street between Chestnut and Walnut Streets.
  • Pets are permitted on park grounds providing they are leashed. Pets are not permitted in any park buildings. Service animals are welcom in all buildings.
  • You will receive a time to be present for your free tour and should arrive 15 minutes early to complete the security check.
