Activity Overview

The Mint Museum Randolph is located in the same building which once held the original branch of the United States Mint. It became North Carolina's first art museum when it was opened in 1936 and today hosts numerous exhibitions, cultural programs and events for the public to enjoy. Included in the facility are a reference library and a theatre.

Things to Do

  • The Mint Museum has a diverse collection and exhibits that are updated throughout the year. Their American Art collection covers works from the 1700s up to the 1950s and works from major artists of the time can be enjoyed.
  • There are also exhibits that will appeal to people with an interest in history drawn from their collection of art works from the Ancient Americas and the decorative arts, some objects in their collections date as far back as 2,000 B.C.
  • People with an interest in ceramics, pottery, procelain and man and women's fashions will find plenty to keep them occ

Mint Museum Randolph Insider Tips

  • The Museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. It is regularly closed on major holidays.
  • It is free to enter the Mint Museum after 5 pm on Wednesdays.
  • The grounds around the Randolph Mint Museum are beautiful and people often use them to jog, cycle or walk their dogs. You could plan a picnic either before or after taking in the highlights that the Museum has to offer. The Museum itself is quieter than those in the center of Charlotte so it can make a welcome respite from the city's more popular attractions.
