Activity Overview

The New York Botanical Garden is a 250-acre garden landscape and National Historic Landmark located in the Bronx. It features over a million different plants from every habitat imaginable, including deserts and tropical areas. It focuses on educating the public about plant science, ecology, and healthy eating through programs, as well as operating one of the largest plant research and conservation programs in the entire world.

If you're looking for a place where your family can have fun while spending the entire day in the great outdoors, consider a visit to the New York Botanical Garden. Their All-Garden pass will allow you to explore all 50 gardens, a conservatory, a children's garden, a family garden, a 50-acre forest trail, an art gallery, and take a tour of the site on a tram!

Things to Do

  • Have a blast and learn all about the gardens on their narrated Tram Tour. It's also a great way to get around if you have small children who tire easily, so take advantage of its nine different stops.
  • Take your child to the Everett Children's Adventure Garden, where they can climb boulders, run through a maze, invent new plants, and do interactive science experiments with the help of friendly staff members.
  • Visit the Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden, where visitors of all ages are encouraged to dig in the dirt, plant seeds, and learn about food. It also often features activities such as cooking demonstrations and hands-on gardening classes.

New York Botanical Garden Insider Tips

  • In addition to its 50 gardens, the New York Botanical Garden also frequently features special events, including family-friendly activities and fascinating exhibitions. View their calendar to see what exciting things are going on during your visit.
  • Save some money by bringing along picnic lunches instead of buying food from one of the cafes - you're welcome to eat in the Clay Family Picnic Pavilion.
  • Make sure to be respectful of the gardens - don't touch the plants, pick flowers, climb trees, feed animals, or play on the lawns. Instead, bring along a camera and encourage your child to practice their photography skills, or simply enjoy your natural surroundings.
