Activity Overview

The San Jacinto Monument is a 570-foot tall column topped with a 34-foot, 22-ton star that commemorates the Battle of San Jacinto. It is located within San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site, which preserves the land where the key battle of the Texas Revolution took place, eventually leading to Texas' independence from Mexico.

Inside the base of the monument, visitors can learn about the Battle of San Jacinto and the history of Texas in the San Jacinto Museum of History. It is also a popular family attraction due to its observation deck, which provides spectacular views of the USS Texas battleship below, as well as the city of Houston in the distance.

Things to Do

  • Visit the San Jacinto Museum of History - it features fascinating artifacts from over 400 years of Texas history that feature in exhibits focusing on the culture of Texas, the history of the Republic of Texas, and famous Texas historical figures.
  • Ride the elevator to the top of the monument so that you can enjoy its amazing views of Houston, Buffalo Bayou, and the battleground below. Don't forget your camera!
  • Explore the battleground and walk alongside the beautiful reflection pool, which is 1,800 feet long!

San Jacinto Monument Insider Tips
