Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture is located in Washington D.C. on the National Mall. The museum is dedicated to explore and present the diversity of African American culture, the mission of the museum is to go beyond racial boundaries and celebrate the diversity of culture and arts. The idea of the museum was conceived in 2003, the museum represents exhibits and artifacts displaying the diversity and richness of African American Life, History, Art and culture. The current exhibit is located in the National Museum of American history, admission to the museum is free.

Things to Do

• Families should visit the museum to learn about African American history, current exhibit is located in the National museum of American history.
• "Through the African American lens" exhibit shows an extensive collection of historical photographs of the African American families, organizations and revolutionary individuals.
• The new location of the museum will feature many exhibits and historic collections, collections include 1850 badge of an enslaved worker, Muhammad Ali's head gear and Louis Armstrong's Trumpet.
• The museum collection presents African American art and culture through a collection of musical instruments, costumes, photographs, paintings, sculptures, films and other memorabilia.
• The exhibits in the new building will be interactive and will feature multimedia and touch screen kiosks.
