If you are like me you will most likely be making some New Years Resolutions to get your life in order whether it is money management to getting healthy to quitting smoking
The Week online magazines has 5 simple tricks to making sure we keep our resolutions.
Be specific
People who set explicit New Year's resolutions are 10 times more likely to achieve their goals than people who make more general resolutions. For me this means I will work out 3 times a week on the treadmill and 2 weight training sessions. Aim lowIf you've been less than successful with your past resolutions you should set your sites to a more obtainable goal. This year instead of saying I am going to make $10,000 in freelance income, I will shoot for a more realistic sum of $5,000.
Do not break the bank
Truly bad resolutions are the ones you can't afford to keep, even if you try. I have never really been guilty of this as I am very frugal.
Make it automatic
You can do yourself a huge favor,, by doing something to make yourself more secure financially in 2011. Set it yourself automatically pay yourself first. Luckily I do this already but if I can increase my freelance earnings I can increase contributions to my Roth IRA.
Get a buddy
One of the surest way to improve your chances of sticking to your resolutions is to make them public, so tell people that you're going to lose those 10 pounds. Better yet, get a goal buddy to do it with you. It's all about "holding yourself accountable. My good girlfriends tend to keep me accountable as well as my husband. Maybe I should post my status on Facebook. Nah I don’t want to make it that public.
