Big Island Hawaii Hotel - Where Should You Stay?...
If you are planning a trip to Hawaii, you might be wondering which Big Island Hawaii Hotel is the best choice for you. As I live in Hawaii, I've stayed and played at a few of them. Hope this information helps.
All of these hotels are on the Kohala Coast of The Big Island - in the main resort area.
Hilton Hotel: The Hilton is actually one of the more reasonable Big Island Hotels and is my personal favorite for traveling with kids. They have parrots in the open entrance, dolphins, and a variety of other animals around the hotel. Visitors have three options when traveling to their room - you can go by monorail, by boat, or horse and buggy. This Hawaii hotel also boasts an enormous pool - locals pay $25 per person just to use it for a day. There are waterfalls, grotto's, and hot tubs and the pool is huge. Numerous dining choices are availalbe and the hotel is close to both the Kings and Queens Shops so plenty of shopping opportunities are available. The shops offer a food court and two Starbucks for casual meals or when you need a coffee. The rooms are nice and the staff courteous.
Marriot Waikoloa: In the same resort complex as the Hilton, the Marriott was just remodeled. The rooms are very nice as is the overall hotel. They have a wonderful breakfast buffet which is open to the public. The pool is very nice, although not as fun as the pool at the Hilton. It may be a better choice for those with older children. Is situated very close to the shops and gas station. The beachfront access at the Marriot is extremely nice. One of the nicest beaches in the resort areas.
Mauna Kea: This is the oldest resort on the Kohala Coast. It was just completely remodeled because of major damage caused by an earthquake in 2006. The remodeled rooms are gorgeous and the golf course is award-winning. As the first hotel, they have some of the most spectacular views of the coast and the nicest beaches in the area. The hotel is a bit pricey and doens't really anything spectactular for children.
Mauna Lani: The Mauna Lani is one of my favorite Big Island Hawaii Hotels. The entire hotel has a very open feel, and koi ponds, lagoons, and trees grow all over the place. The feel is extremely tropical. The Mauna Lani resort is also home to The Shops at Mauna Lani so great dining and shopping are very close by. The Mauna Lani has two golf courses and a very nice beach. We often see sea turtles right in the swimming area at the Mauna Lani. The oceanview rooms at this hotel are expensive, but are absolutely spectacular. The remaining rooms are nice, but nothing extraordinary.
There are other hotels in this area of The Big Island, but these are definitely my favorites. Hope they help you as you make your selection of a Big Island Hotel. Aloha!
