Date Night Restaurant - Uchi
The sitter is booked, and you and your spouse are looking forward to a nice, adult-oriented meal out on the town - but where to go? One of our favorite special-occasion restaurants is Uchi. Although it is rightfully and righteously known as a sushi restaurant, thanks to chef Tyson Cole's creative menu, even those who don't like sushi will find a myriad of delicious treats. The space is beautiful, and although it can get loud, we think being tucked into one of their booths with a constantly shifting parade of small, amazing plates coming out is heaven. We always get the bacon steakie - pork belly braised first, then flame grilled - melts in your mouth. The saba shioyaki, salt-grilled mackerel, is always great, and you can't go wrong with their sushi, much of which is flown in from the famed Tokyo fish market. Even something as mundane as tempura is excellent here, with a light, airy coating, a sensational dipping sauce, and creative choices of veggies and fish. It can get pricey, but they have nightly early-bird specials including some incredible mussels in a kaffir lime broth.
