Green Painting - What the Heck Is It?
Do you know what green painting is? Have you heard of low VOC and no VOC paint? What about organic paint? Do you know why choosing eco friendly paint is important? I didn't until a few years ago.
Basically, paint contains VOCs, or volatile organic compounds. These VOCs are chemicals that off-gas when the paint is applied to the walls and they can be extremely harmful to the air quality and to humans. In mild cases, they can cause eye, nose, and throat irritation. However, they can also cause liver and kidney damage, and people who are sensitive to chemicals can be severely harmed.
The good news is that there are many eco friendly paint options on the market today - including low VOC paint, no VOC paint, and organic paint. These paints are better for the environment, they are better for you and your family, and they work just as well as traditional paint.
And for people who want to go completely natural, there are actually totally natural, organic paints on the market as well. While these may not work for everyone, you'd be amazed at the colors that are on the market now!
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates all of the products that market themselves as low or zero VOC and they have to meet specific standards in order to label themselves as being a eco friendly alternative.
