Home Based Call Center Jobs
If you are looking for a work at home opportunity, you might want to consider looking at home based call center jobs. There are lots of legitimate companies out there now that hire independent contractors to answer phones at home and to provide customer service for a wide variety of clients. Some well-known companies like Jet Blue even hire their own home based call center reps to take care of their customer service calls.
Moving this kind of work to home based contractors allows companies to keep the work in the United States and provides a great opportunity for stay-at-home (or working) moms & dads to earn some extra income.
Here's a partial list of home based call center jobs that I'm aware of and a little information on each:
Out of all the customer service jobs that I'm aware of, this one is the best. The company is small, the owners are nice, and they pay well. They answer calls almost exclusively for PBS television and radio stations during their pledge drives. Because of this, there are about 4 months out of the year that are very busy and the rest of the time is rather slow. However, they are a great company to work for, if you can get in with them.
I used to answer phones for this company and almost all of their work involves taking orders for infomercial products. It's easy and they are a legitimate company that pays for the time you are on the phone. That said, they require their agents to read from scripts and to try to upsell all callers on a number of different products. Many of the scripts border on pushy and I did not enjoy that part of the job at all. If that kind of thing doesn't bother you, they are a great company to work for.
<strong>West At Home</strong>
West is another one of the largest home based call centers out there. They also take infomercial orders, but they have a number of other divisions as well, so there are lots of other options. At one time they were actually taking phone order for Pizza Hut and 1-800-Flowers, so they do have some quality clients and a lot more flexibility that LiveOps does. They hire quite frequently, so it's a great place to start.
Willow is one of the most sought after home based call center jobs available. They have high-quality clients and the pay is quite good. However, it can take an extremely long time to hear back from them because they have a very large backlog of applicants. It's worth it to apply with them, but if you really want/need to make some money, you'll want to also apply with some of the other companies that hire more often.
Alpine Access is another hightly respected call center. Again, it can take a long time to hear back from them as they have a lot of applicants. It's well worth applying though.
There are lots more home based call center jobs available. The legitimate ones will never ask for a "fee" to process your application, so don't pay one. There are, however, a few that will require you to pay a background check fee <strong>after</strong> they have offered you a position as an independed contractor. This is legitimate, you'll just have to decide if you want to pay it.
