Homemade Cloth Napkins and Holders

We are always looking for ways to be more environmentally friendly around here.  One thing we have been doing for the past 8 months or so is using cloth napkins almost exclusively.  These have been a hit and my three year old has even gotten in the very polite habit of putting one on his lap each time he sits down to eat.

The one problem we have is that we are constantly often running out of them as messes have a tendency of multiplying around here.  So the other day when my husband was going to toss some old work dress shirts I took them from him and not only saved another piece of trash...but got us more cloth napkins as well.

The process is simple...cut out large square or rectangle pieces of the clean garment and then hem (or if you can't sew like me, use craft scissors for no frayed edges).  Here is where where the napkin rings come in.  If the shirt has button sleeves, remove this part right below the cuff and ta-da-instant napkin ring!
