Keep Your Pets Safe on Halloween
Halloween's ghouls and goblins can frighten your pets, too. Take a few steps to ensure your beloved animal's health and safety on this spooky eve.
Don't drop the candy! Chocolate contains a toxic component called Theobromine, which can be harmful when ingested by animals and is sometimes life-threatening. Chocolate also contains caffeine, but in smaller doses. Still, the level of caffeine can send your pet into a tailspin. Be sure and stash the candy bowl out of reach from Fido or Kitty.
Place lit candles and decorative lights safely out of your pet's way. Unfortunately, wagging tails sometimes get burned. Check that your cat is home during prime trick or treat hours to keep it safe and secure from potential pranksters.
While in the house during heavy door-knocking hours, keep pets in a separate room with plenty of food and water (or liter box accommodations for your cat). The constant ringing of the doorbell and traffic to your home could cause your pet added stress.
Finally, if outfitting a pet in a Halloween costume, make sure they are comfortable in it and that nothing is dangerous if they happen to chew on it.
Happy Halloween for you and your bundles of fur!
