Make a Super Bowl or Holiday Center Piece That...
Here is a simple idea for a themed center piece that serves as a delicious snack as well. This is also a great item to take to a Super Bowl party at a friend's house and is sure to be the hit of any gathering and/or celebration.
Things You’ll Need:
Choose a great cheese ball recipe which should be doubled to create a nice sized center piece. I have placed my "always yummy" cheese ball recipe at the end of this article for you to consider. This recipe naturally makes a huge cheese ball and will be perfect for your center piece when doubled.
You will also need about 1/2 yard. of material that carries your theme in either color or design. Any fabric store should have plenty to choose from, and perhaps you will find just what you need in the remnant section at a great discount.
Next, select a small icon or object signifying your holiday theme, sports event, or other special event you are celebrating. To find this, you may check with your local bakery, or perhaps you have something around the house that will work well.
After thoroughly cleaning your chosen icon/item, place it in the middle of your Holiday Center Piece cheese loaf, removing some of the nuts or olives if necessary.
Once you have chosen the right location for your edible Holiday Center Piece cheese loaf, elevate the loaf in some way. A pedestal cake plate works well. Or, you might place a small box in the middle of your table. A flat tissue box is about the size you are looking for.
If using a box for elevation, loosely drape your accent fabric over the box in a way that flows well with the table cloth or other table/counter surface. Place the plate holding your edible Holiday Center Piece cheese loaf on top of the loosely covered box.
If you are using a pedestal cake plate, simply place the accent material on the flat surface in the center of your table. Place the pedestal plate holding your edible Holiday Center Piece directly on material and fluff the material a bit, making a few natural looking loose folds.
As an extra touch, scatter a few party favors, confetti, or crackers creatively around the folds of the material.
CONGRATULATIONS! You are now ready to show off your own unique design...your own creation ... your edible HOLIDAY CENTER PIECE!
Gerrie's "Always Yummy" Cheese Ball Recipe
2 reg. size pkg. of cream cheese,
1 well rounded tablespoon of mayonnaise
1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
1 pkg. dry Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing, (or generic brand)
1 quick squirt of lemon
A dash of Worcestershire sauce
Enough finely ground pecans or chopped olives to cover your creation.
Mix all ingredients except for the nuts or olives. Roll the mixture into a ball and roll it in either the olives or nuts. Flatten the cheese ball to look like an oblong loaf, square, or even football if you wish. (If you have time, it is always best to let the mixture sit in the refrigerator overnight.)
