My Award Winning Halloween Costume
When my son was in Cub Scouts, he won best costume with this simple costume: A Pile of Leaves!
Take an oversized Autumn-colored sweatshirt (if you can use an old one of yours or dad's that would be best) that comes down to your child's knees or a bit lower.
Purchase a big bag or a long garland of synthetic autumn leaves. Remove leaves from garland or package, and separate into individual leaves.
Sew or hot glue the leaves all over the sweatshirt, covering at least 90% of the fabric. (I sewed my leaves on in order for the costume to stand up to many wearings, and although it was very time consuming, it was also very relaxing and enjoyable to do while watching tv or chatting with the kids.)
Have your child wear brown or red pants or tights, and pin a few leaves to his or her hair. Put some "dirt" on his/her face. That's it! She/he is a big pile of leaves.
You will be amazed at how cool it looks. It couldn't be easier, and it's very unique.
