National Do Not Call List Registry
The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free. Your registration will be effective for five years.
I am pretty sure that each state has their own Do Not Call Registry as well (not sure why we need both, but there you go).
This cut down on unwanted annoying phone calls at our house by a ton! It is very a rare event to get an unsolicited call since we registered for this list. For the first month, if you still receive such calls you can politely let them know to remove you from their list as you are no on the Do Not Call list. After the first month, you should be solicitor call free. Which is nice, because it means that you can actually answer your phone again!
ALSO...is there any way to get junk mail out your mail box? I try to be eco friendly as possible ,even cancelling the paper because it was more "stuffing" than interesting. I went so far as to call my local paper to see if I could get it without the stuff. On an enviormentilly challenged earth we should really not have to recycle unwanted stuff. JEH
Alison, there is usually a number on the bottom of the fax that come thru, call and unsubscribe
I wish there was something similar for fax machines. Our fax machine is in my home and we get calls once a week in the early morning hours which wake us. It is SO irritating. I was advised the fax machine opt-out system is a private industry that then sells the numbers....so we have not gone that route. I don't know how to make these calls stop. Any suggestions?
I'm glad that you had such good results from the Do Not Call Registery. I however, did not. In less that 5 minutes after I had put my numbers on the registery my phones were being bombarded with telemarketing as well as prank phone calls. The only way that I got some type of relief was to change my numbers and not use the Do Not Call Registery website. I realize that there is a 31 day time period that we were suppose to allow for but, I could not handle all of the non-stop day and night calls. Also, when I asked how the telemarketers were to be held accountable for calling me after the 31 days allowance, I was told that I was to ask them to take me off of thier list and not call me again. Then I was told to call the police if they persisted in calling my numbers. The police have better things to do with their time than go after telemarketers.
