Sugar Cookies and Frosting
This is my favorite sugar cookie recipe, from Everyday Food. It’s perfect for cookie cutter cookies. After the cookies have cooled, I make colored frosting for the kids to use to decorate the cookies. Just take a few scoops of confectioners sugar, add a few drops of milk, and stir. The mixture should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. The trick is that you need only a few drops of milk; if you add too much milk, just keep adding sugar until it thickens. Then just have the kids use small spoons to drizzle on the frosting. For coloring, I really like Ateco food coloring gels. The colors are incredibly bright and mix much better than the liquids from the grocery store. You can find them at stores that carry baking supplies, like Sur la Table.
