The Austin Steam Train Association is an organization that provides a variety of train rides that transport you back in history to the era of steam locomotives. They offer numerous round-trip train experiences each year that are fun for riders of all ages. Their most popular routes are the Hill Country Flyer through Texas Hill Country and the Bertram Flyer, which passes through the historic Bertram Depot. They also offer steam train excursions for various holidays and with themes like murder mysteries, superheroes, and 1920s Hollywood.
Things to Do
- Hop onto the Hill Country Flyer for a 6-hour journey through Texas Hill Country, including two hours to explore Burnet, where you can grab lunch, explore the historic town square, and maybe even catch the Wild West Gunfight!
- Take a shorter steam train journey on the Bertram Flyer, a vintage train which covers 44 miles over 2.5 hours with a brief stop at the Bertram Depot which was constructed in the early 1900s.

- If you have a child under the age of 3, they can ride in your lap for free if you don't want to pay for a child ticket.
- Feel free to bring along snacks and drinks - they're permitted as long as you're not riding on a train that includes a meal service.
