Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge
Activity OverviewBayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge is located near New Orleans, Louisiana, it's just 15 minutes drive from the French Quarter. The nation's largest Urban wildlife refuge is home to native and migratory birds and fish species. The 24,000 acres of wildlife refuge was opened in 1990, it's habitat constitutes of fresh and brackish marshes, freshwater lagoons, bayous and ponds, and acres of hardwood forests. Families can visit the wildlife refuge and enjoy fishing, hiking, bird watching, canoeing, wildlife observation via the boardwalk, and waterfowl hunting. Fish that can be caught here includes, bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill. Several events including, Great Louisiana bird fest, and national hunting and fishing day are held at the wildlife refuge.
