The Buffalo History Museum is located in the former New York State pavilion used for the Pan-American Exposition, a world's fair held in Buffalo in 1901. The beautiful building designed to resemble the Parthenon in Athens now houses a variety of fascinating history-related exhibits, as well as the world's largest collection of artifacts from the Pan-American exposition. If you're interested in history, it's well worth a brief stop.

Things to Do

  • Explore the Native American gallery, which looks at the history of local Native American groups with displays such as a beautiful headdress and a walk-in longhouse.
  • Go for a stroll down the Street of Shops, where you can travel back in time as you step inside of several 19th-century shops.
  • Visit Inside Tim Russert's Office, a new exhibit that features the contents of famous television journalist and Buffalo resident Tim Russert's office.
  • Check out the Spirit of the City, the highlight of the museum, which features all kinds of fascinating artifacts and displays related to the Pan-American Exposition.
