Activity Overview

The California State Museum collects artifacts and relics of the cultures of the native peoples who lived in California long before white settlers arrived. These tribes numbered in the hundreds and each had distinctive and beautiful cultures sometimes with their own distinct language too. Though much of this culture unfortunately died when the white settlers took over you can still appreciate works of art and stories of these peoples at museum's such as these.

Things to Do

• On display in the museum you will find much bead and basketwork much of which would have required great skill to create. You can see various photographs of the families and friends of Native Indians who are still living in California today. There are various tools and implements the Indians would have used in handiwork and craft work too.
• If you would like a tour of the Museum one can be organised free of charge. As long as you make a reservation in advance and your group is between 10 and 50 people big then there is no charge. If your group turn up without a reservation then the cost is $3 per adult and $2 per youth from 6-17. Children under 5 are always free.
