Attracting thousands of visitors a year the California State Railroad Museum offers 225,000 square feet of exhibit space to the history of the railroads in California and the entire West of America. There are plenty of exhibits which include over twenty restored and beautifully maintained locomotives and train cars. These great machines are undoubtedly the museum's big attraction as you can get right up close to an essential part of the U.S.A's history.

Things to Do

• Every first and third Monday of the month at 11.00 and 11.30 am is All Aboard for Story Time when Museum staff read children's stories for children and parents. It's a lot of fun for the kiddos and a good way to spend a Monday morning. The story time is free with admission.
• Are you a true train nut? If so you then a trip on one of the Museum's weekend excursions is a must! Take a ride on one of their coach cars or ride first class alongside the Sacramento river. You would be one of over a million people to have enjoyed the pleasure of what true train travel is all about.
• It is possible to book a train ride over weekends from April to September. Thanks to the popularity of these trips it is now possible to take them on certain Tuesdays throughout the year. Take a look at their website for more information.
