C.H. Nash Museum at Chucalissa
Activity OverviewIf you are looking to learn more about the original inhabitants of Memphis before European colonization, you and your family should head along to the C.H. Nash Museum at Chucalissa. The museum, which was originally known as the Chucalissa Indian Village, is situated on a Mississippian mound complex and has operated as both a museum and archaeological site since rediscovering the settlement during the original construction work for the T.O. Fuller State Park. Evidence suggests that before the site was abandoned in the 16th century, humans were present as early as far back as 3,000 years ago! However, it is thought that the a settlement was not present in the area until the 11th century and was abandoned a number of times during its history before Spanish settlers landed in the area.
