Chestnut Square Historic Village

Activity Overview

Located south of the downtown McKinney Square, the Chestnut Square Historic Village is a collection of 6 replica historic homes that show how people lived in the area in from the middle of the nineteenth century to the beginning of the twentieth century.

The entire family can discover a wide number of artifacts in these homes, as well as in the additional buildings on the ground, which include a smokehouse, a blacksmith shop and a historic chapel.

The Chestnut Square Historic Village is easily reachable via Highway 75 to exit 40A in McKinney. Parking is available on Anthony Street nearby the houses.

Things to Do

• Every summer there is an ice-cream festival on the premises, so check for the dates when planning the visit. Kids activities include Make Your Own Icecream, balloon sculptures, face painting, magic shows, and more.
• Enroll your pre-schooler in the Pioneer Days at Chestnut Square program, where they can explore some of the chores and games that kept the pioneers busy.
• The Prairie Adventure camps show allow the entire family to see how butter is churned, how blacksmithing works and how are clothes woven on an antique loom.
