Activity Overview

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is the world's largest children's museum. It has a collection of over 120,000 artifacts that are divided into three groups: the American Collection that features Barbie dolls and toy trains, the Natural Science Collection that contains fossils of all kinds, and the World Cultures Collection which includes cultural artifacts such as ceremonial clothing and tools.

It's not just a collection of artifacts, though - the museum is also home to tons of interactive exhibits on topics like dinosaurs, science, movies, ancient treasures, space, and flight! If you have young children, they're sure to have a blast at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis.

Things to Do

  • Take your little one to the Playscape! This special area for infants, toddlers and preschoolers encourages the museum's youngest visitors to create art, splash in a pond, play musical instruments, and climb through nature.
  • Explore the Dinosphere, where you can see life-size dinosaur fossils, dig for bones, and touch part of a real Tyrannosaurus rex. It also features a dinosaur species that was named after Hogwarts!
  • Visit the ScienceWorks exhibit with your budding scientist and take part in all of the great scientific activities. Your child can make a biodegradable toy, learn about fossils from a paleontologist, enjoy a planetarium show, and much more.

Children's Museum of Indianapolis Insider Tips

  • Museum admission is a bit expensive, so look at websites like Groupon for coupons that can help you save money on your visit.
  • If you get hungry, grab some food from the museum's Food Court - they offer snacks and meals, including kid favorites like macaroni and cheese and chicken sliders.
  • Don't forget to bring along a camera so you can take some great candid photos of your child as they play in the museum!
