Activity Overview
Coterie Theatre gives its own take on children's theatre by creating and performing shows that both challenge and entertain audiences and artists alike. Their focus on diversity makes for a uniquely great annual lineup of plays, musicals, monologues, and children and family performances.
Historical and educational plays are performed alongside childhood favorites like Cat in the Hat and holiday musicals like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Some plays last for months while others are only performed for a week, so it's best to check the calendar and make sure you don't miss a thing.
Coterie also boasts an Arts Education program for children and teens which focuses on teaching and perfecting their acting skills. Children of all ages are welcome to register. Coterie will also visit schools in the area and provide acting and playwriting workshops to middle school and high school students who are interested in theatre and want to improve their acting and writing skills.
Things to Do
- See a play! Children's plays include renditions of childhood classics like Dr. Seuss and Frog & Toad. During the holidays, themed shows can be expected. On Halloween, enjoy an adult-only performance of Night of the Living Dead, and this Christmas catch the classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer brought to life on the stage.
- After-the-Show Workshops: Perfect for large groups or field trips, these workshops invite children and adults to ask the actors questions about performing, technical theater, costume design, and anything else that goes into producing a stage show. Get hands-on experience behind the scenes and find out how you can get involved with the program.
- Take a Class: The Arts Education program offers acting classes for elementary through high school students interested in learning about acting in the theatre. Choose from drama or comedy.
