Activity Overview
The Crabtree Nature Center sits in over a thousand acres of land that have been set aside specifically as Nature Reserve land. Within this land there are a large number of nature trails giving visitors in the park plenty of space and time to explore and engage with the beautiful nature that abounds.
Things to Do
- Regular events take place including informative Bird Walks and also "Yoga In Nature" classes. More kid-friendly events are often organised too. You can take the opportunity to be a ranger and head out into the field for the day alongside a real park ranger.
- The Art in Nature event sees artists come to paint on the trails and allows parents and children to create their own artwork together. Archery classes are intermittently held while special talks can be given on owls, bats and spiders or other animals like waterfowl. For a full list of their regularly changing events check their website.
- The land around the center is a real treat for bird-watchers. 260 different species of birds have been recorded in these lands. There is a small hut along the main trail which can be used as a hide to get a better look at the birds around the lake. Binoculars are provided.
- The hikes are not overly difficult and can be completed by children who are not too young in age. Also younger kids as well as adults will enjoy spotting the varied and rich wildlife which the park around the center has to offer.
- The hiking trails are a wonderful place to explore through all seasons. Out in nature you can really see the changes in detail and how they affect the varied plant and wild life.
The Crabtree Nature Center Insider Tips
- Take care if it has recently been raining heavily as the trails can become very muddy.
