Cranbrook Art museum is a historic museum and one of the oldest art museums in the United States. This museum is a part of Cranbrook educational community that was founded by George and Ellen Booth. The art museum presents several exhibitions and educational programming that feature modern and contemporary art.
Things to Do
- The Cranbrook Art museum offers a variety of tours for its visitors, these interesting tours include the Smith house tours, collection wing tours, Saarinen house tours, and special Sunday tours. The collection wing tour displays 6,000 plus art and craft items.
- The self-guided outdoor sculpture tour is enjoyed by both individuals and families, the sculpture treasure hunt helps you find 18 sculptures on the grounds. This is a fun exploration tour that helps dig deeper about different artists.
- Drop-in Art Sundays are celebrated once a month, the art making activities are geared towards kids in age group of 3 to 12. Kids can create their own artwork, kids must be accompanied by adults.
- Saarinen House tours are offered May through October, Saarinen house is a Finnish-American designer Saarinen's master piece that was built in the late 1920's. The beautiful house is an artistic master piece and a must-visit for families.
- Many exhibits are routinely set-up in the Art museum. The museum houses extra ordinary and contemporary Art collection from the 20th and 21st centuries.
