Activity Overview
Create a large scale dot-to-dot activity for toddlers and school aged children to enjoy. Children will have the opportunity to practice their counting skills as well as enhance their gross and fine motor skills by moving their bodies around the paper and using their hands to write.
As a child I always enjoyed doing dot-to-dot activities. The neat thing about this activity is that is doesn't have to take the form of a picture. It can just be a random spacing of numbers as long as there is a sequence of digits displayed on the page.
We first tried this on a large white board, but the little ones found it hard to reach and they were smudging the dry erase marker. They liked when it was made on large paper, so they could lay on and crawl about it as they searched and drew lines from number to number.
Materials Needed
- Markers
- Large piece of paper
- Painter's tape
How to Make It
- Tape a very large sheet of paper onto the floor or onto a wall.
- Use a thick colored marker to write a sequence of numbers in a random fashion all over the sheet of paper.
- Draw a colored in dot next to each number on the page.
- Give your child a crayon and have them draw a line to each number in sequential order.
