Activity Overview
Create a robot friend out of recycled materials and old broken and unused technology pieces that you have at home. This is a great creative project for kids of all ages to do. We keep a recycle bin full of clean recyclables easily accessible in our home. This both encourages recycling as well as reusing and upcycling of materials.
It is truly incredible what a child's mind will come up with. When they have finished, have them share what they built with the rest of the family. Let them explain why they chose to use certain pieces to build with and what functions the robot would ideally carry out. Don't forget to have them name their new robot friend.
Materials Needed
- Random items from the recycle bin
- Old technology parts
- Glue Gun
- Paper and pencil
How to Make It
- Let the kids loose in the bin of recyclables and have them gather items that they think that they can work with with the vision of creating a unique robot.
- If you have old technology pieces that are past their prime, those can come in handy for this project too.
- Lay out what you have to work with on the table in front of you.
- On a piece of paper, sketch out how you think you would like to piece together your supplies to form your robot.
- Piece by piece start building your robot while gluing the items together with a glue gun.
- Try to make it sturdy and balanced enough to stand on it's own.
