Activity Overview
Destin Beach is part of the "Emerald Coast" of Florida, a 100-mile coastal area facing the Gulf and spanning 5 counties. Just by the name itself, expect crystal clear, emerald waters of the Gulf to greet you. Pick a beach access of your choice and then sit back, relax with powder-fine white sand between your toes, and take in the breathtaking view of the Gulf of Mexico. The most popular access points are Henderson and Crystal Sands.
Things to Do
- Rent an umbrella and spend the day lounging by the beach. The kids will have no problem building sandcastles here with the fine, powdery sand. Waves on this side of the Gulf are generally calm and ideal for kids.
- Do water activities such as jetskiing or sign up for a dolphin or a pirate cruise. Aside from dolphins, you may also see manatees and different species of fish if you go on a jetskii or cruise.
- If you want to do more inland activity, you'll find plenty in Destin too! Play mini-golf, go to recreation centers, and explore shops and restaurants in the area.
Destin Beach Insider Tips
- During peak seasons, finding a parking spot can be hard and traffic is usually bumper to bumper. Some tourists recommend parking a couple of blocks away and renting a bike to go to the beach.
- The best time to visit is in April and May, when the summer crowds have not yet arrived and hotel rates are cheaper.
