Activity Overview
Eagle Creek Park is the largest park in Indianapolis, as well as one of the largest municipal parks in the entire United States. It allows for a seemingly endless list of family-friendly activities, including fishing, cross-country skiing, golfing, hiking, boating, swimming, cycling, and wildlife watching. It is also an important nature reserve due to the many species that call it home, as well as having facilities like playgrounds, a dog park, a bird sanctuary, an ornithology center, and an outdoor adventure course. Things to Do
- Visit the Ornithology Center to learn all about the park's birds, including bald eagles and great blue herons. They often have fun "Meet a Raptor" sessions where you can see birds of prey up close, and organize Sunday morning birdwalks through the park.
- Take your child to Go Ape, a thrilling treetop adventure course where you can fly through the air on zip lines, swing through the trees, and climb around the forest.
- Escape the summer heat by going for a swim at the beach or exploring the water on a paddle board, pontoon boat, paddle boat, or sailboat! You can rent boats and paddle boards from Wheel Fun Rentals at Eagle Creek Outfitters.
Eagle Creek Park Insider Tips
- If you want your dog to join in on the family fun then stop by the Gilmore Canine Companion Zone, where your dog can get some exercise and interact with other dogs.
- Bring along some food and drinks and have a family picnic by the water or in the forest.
- Don't forget your camera so you can take photos of the whole family while hiking around the park, fishing, and bird watching!
