Living in New England, we are dealing with another round of the flu, colds and sickness galore. I hate using the over the counter medicine and with 2 kids in school, I can't keep my girls in a bubble but when they show the first signs of a cold, a sore throat or scratchiness, I give them a teaspoon of honey in the morning before they go to school, when they come home and before bed. Honey is a natural anti-flammatory cure and helps kill off any germs. Do not do this for kids under 3 years old. I started doing this when my kids were 5 and this has helped deter their throat irritation from getting worse. If your child won't take the honey straight, just warm up a half cup of water and add it - it makes it sweet and your child will be more prone to enjoy drinking that instead. Add in a wedge of lemon to help the taste -lemon also helps in aiding sore throats too.
