Activity Overview
The Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary is a beautiful 17.5-acre wooded nature sanctuary located alongside Rummel Creek in Houston, Texas. It is named after Edith Moore, a local woman who used to live in the area in a log cabin and later donated her land so that it could become a permanent nature sanctuary. Run by the Houston Audobon Society, its mission is to provide an urban habitat for native species as well as educate visitors about nature.
If you're looking for a place in Houston to enjoy a relaxing family outing exploring nature, head to the Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary. It's a great place to take the kids for a short hike and some bird watching.
Things to Do
- Go for a hike along one of the sanctuary's trails - your kids will be fascinated by the many species that call the sanctuary home, including frogs, snakes, and mammals.
- Discover all the gorgeous bird species that live in the park! One of the best ways to do this is by going on a guided bird walk with one of the sanctuary's knowledgeable volunteers. View the nature walk schedule here.
- Take your little ones to Titmouse Club, a nature group designed for children between the ages of 2 and 5. They'll learn about nature while going on walks and doing fun hands-on activities like crafts.
