Activity Overview

Garfield Park is the oldest city park in Indianapolis, Indiana. It consists of 128 acres of land that feature trails, a conservatory, a sunken garden, beautiful fountains, a playground, a pagoda, an arts center, an outdoor stage, a recreation center, an outdoor aquatic center, and facilities for sports such as tennis and baseball. If you're wanting to enjoy a day outdoors in Indianapolis, Garfield Park is one of the best places to visit.

Things to Do

• Go for a relaxing stroll along the 1.5-mile path that weaves its way through the park or bring along your tennis equipment and play a match on the courts.
• Stop by the Garfield Park Conservatory to see its beautiful flowers and plants, including a fascinating rainforest display.
• Visit the Garfield Park Arts Center, which includes an art gallery, classrooms, a library, and spaces for live performances. On Saturdays you can also enjoy Arts for All, a program where families can do hands-on art activities together.

• Don't miss the Sunken Garden, a series of European classical formal gardens complete with magnificent fountains and floral displays! In the summertime, you can also enjoy the Music in the Garden concert series.
• Cool off in the summer heat by visiting the aquatic center, which has a zero depth pool with spray features for young children as well as a larger pool with swimming lanes and slides.
• Bring along a camera to take photos of memorials such as the beautiful Grove of Remembrance, which was created in 1920 and consists of a tree planted for each soldier from Indianapolis who died in WWI.
