General Butler State Resort Park

Activity Overview

General Butler State Resort Park is a Kentucky state park which is located approximately 70 miles away from Lexington. It is named after General William O. Butler, an important political and military figure in Kentucky history. This beautiful recreation area offers facilities for a wide range of activities that includes fishing, canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, camping, bird watching, miniature golf, swimming, tennis, pedal boating, picnicking, and golf.

Things to Do

• Play a round of miniature golf by the lake - it only costs between $3 and $4 per person.
• Go fishing for bass, catfish, crappie, and bluegill on Butler Lake.
• Explore the park by going on a family hike on one of its two short nature trails! They're both less than a mile long, which is perfect for families with small children. More information on longer trails can be found here.
• Take a boat out on the lake - you can rent canoes, rowboats, and pedal boats at the Boat Dock.
• Bring along a pair of binoculars and go bird watching! There are dozens of species that can be found in the park throughout the year, including wild turkeys, great blue herons, yellow-rumped warblers, mourning doves, and American goldfinches.

• If you plan to go fishing, make sure to get a Kentucky fishing licence before you arrive. However, if you need fishing equipment, including fishing poles, you can borrow them for free at the park.
• Spend the entire weekend enjoying the fresh air in the park by camping - the campground has over 100 campsites that feature amenities such as utility hookups, grills, restrooms, showers, laundry, and WIFI.
• Bring along some food and enjoy a picnic in the designated picnic area near the historic house. When you're finished, you can take advantage of the tennis and basketball courts or the playground as well.
