Activity Overview
Take the entire family out for a journey thousands of years in the past by visiting the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center. This non-profit museum is located just near the entrance of the city in Townsend and is a place where you can discover the heritage and culture of the Native American tribes that once inhabited the the area of the Great Smokey Mountains.
When visiting the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center, you can enjoy a permanent museum exhibition, as well as a several temporary exhibitions that change on a regular basis. The Center is also home to 13 historic buildings that include a set-off house, a wheelwright shop, log cabins, and more.

- Take your time to visit all the buildings in the historic village, which is also an excellent place to take wonderful photos.
- Take part in the Tuesdays at Two program, which provides the entire family with an opportunity to learn more about the center and have fun socializing with other members.
