The exhibits at the Harlansburg Station's Museum of Transportation house over three thousand individual objects ranging from antique cars to passenger trains. Amazingly this vast collection was amassed by just one man, a retired US air force pilot by the name of Donald Barnes. Donald decided some years ago that he wanted to share his personal love of collecting with the public and with the help of his family created a Museum where anyone could come and see the objects that caught his imagination!
Things to Do
- Donald Barnes clearly had a love of collecting items related to transport as in his collection you will find an original Model T Ford, a tandem bicycle, a police motorcycle and greyhound buses. Aside from this there are various other things to be seen from air force uniforms to old petrol pumps. It is an eccentric collection that is entertaining and interesting to explore. You can check out a photo gallery of their exhibits here.
- The Museum has a cute gift shop where you can stop in after your tour. They include plenty of clothes and other gifts for children, there are models of various different types of transport, greeting cards, books and more.
