Activity Overview

The exhibits at the Harlansburg Station's Museum of Transportation house over three thousand individual objects ranging from antique cars to passenger trains. Amazingly this vast collection was amassed by just one man, a retired US air force pilot by the name of Donald Barnes. Donald decided some years ago that he wanted to share his personal love of collecting with the public and with the help of his family created a Museum where anyone could come and see the objects that caught his imagination!

Things to Do

• Donald Barnes clearly had a love of collecting items related to transport as in his collection you will find an original Model T Ford, a tandem bicycle, a police motorcycle and greyhound buses. Aside from this there are various other things to be seen from air force uniforms to old petrol pumps. It is an eccentric collection that is entertaining and interesting to explore. • The Museum has a cute gift shop where you can stop in after your tour. They include plenty of clothes and other gifts for children, there are models of various different types of transport, greeting cards, books and more.

Harlansburg Station's Museum of Transportation Insider Tips

• Admission to the Museum can only be paid in cash.
• The Museum is closed for the season during January and Febuary. From March to Mary and September to December it is only open on the weekends. During the summer season, in June, July and August, the Museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday. It can be possible to organize tours for groups of five or more outside of opening hours. Simply call to check availability with the manager.
