Activity OverviewThe Heinz History Center lets you enjoy 250 years of Pittsburgh history all under one very large roof. This museum consists of six floors and 275,000 square feet of history from The French Indian War to the Super Steelers. As part of the Smithsonian Institute this museum was recently named “Best Museum” by the Pittsburgh Magazine. Things to See & DoThere is a variety of interactive multimedia displays for your enjoyment. There is everything from video and audio clips to virtual tours. Some of the virtual tours include: Tradition of Innovation – Explore and discover the history of Pittsburgh through 50 different hands on activities. Stars & Stripes (An American Story) – This is a special display showing the amazing role that the American Flag has played throughout history with extra attention to the time right after 9/11/01. Sports Museum – Enjoy 70 hands on displays while you relive some of Western Pennsylvania’s greatest moments in sports. From Slavery to Freedom – Explore more than 250 years of African American history in the History Center’s new exhibition. View highlights of the anti-slavery movement and the Underground Railroad. Clash of Empires – Experience The British, French & Indian War, 1754-1763 and watch the dramatic, wide-ranging story of the French & Indian War and its impact as a turning point in American history. SmartSteps – For those who forego the elevator and take the steps to explore the History Center’s six floors of exhibit space will be treated to colorful murals full of wellness tips and healthy information ranging from; how many calories you have burned on your walk to unique facts about Pittsburgh history to keep you encouraged.
