Activity Overview
Spend a day outdoors at Herb Parsons Lake. The place was named after a well-renowned marksman, the Showman Shooter, who was born in the community of Somerville. With an area of 177 acres, you will find plenty of good fishing spots, beautiful trails, an archery range, and shaded picnic areas.
Things to Do
- Bring your fishing rods and go on a boating/fishing trip. Get your stocks from the bait shop and check out the equipment at the boat rentals. Some common types of fish caught in this area are bluegills, crappie, largemouth bass, and catfish. If you have a canoe, you can bring it too! The boat ramp is easily accessible so you can take your kid and paddle out into the lake. There's a fishing pier too if you want to fish but don't want to get on a boat.
- Done with the day's catch? Bring them over to the picnic area, get some barbecue going, and prepare a sumptuous lunch for the family.
- The lake is surrounded by an 8-mile woody trail shared by hikers, joggers, and mountain bikers. Trails are well-kept and are easy to navigate. You can also bring your dog here for a quick run.
Herb Parsons Lake Insider Tips
- Make sure to bring your fishing license. If you don't have one, get a day license from the shop for a minimal amount.
