Activity Overview

You will find Yates Mill, a flour mill built in 1756, in the middle of a sprawling 574-acre park. The mill serves as the central attraction of the park which is often chosen as venue for wedding shoots and receptions. Spend a relaxing afternoon here and avail of a Yates Mill Tour for a minimal amount, explore the trails, visit the museum, go on a picnic, or go fishing.

Things to Do

  • Pack food and drinks and drive with the family to Yates Mill County Park. Go to the museum, drop by the Visitors' Center to learn about the history of milling and sign up for a Corn Grinding Tour, Mill Open House Tour, or a Mill Heritage Tour. Check out their tours page for the regular schedule.
  • After a tour of the house, spend time going around the park. The trails here are well-maintained and all are suitable for an hour of walk or jog. The park also has great spots for birdwatching. You can also go fishing at designated areas on Lake Wheeler.

Historic Yates Mill County Park Insider Tips

  • Free admission for the park. Separate fees apply for the Yates Mill Tour. Check this link for details.
  • Pets are not allowed inside the park to preserve its state as a wildlife refuge.
