Activity Overview

Jan and Dean, an artist duo from the 60s, was inspired by Huntington Beach when they made the song "Surf City". This moniker is true to what Huntington Beach is. It is home to national competitions and to a warm community of surfers. Even when the place is popular for surfers, families who wish to have an unforgettable beach experience will have the time of their lives here.

Things to Do

  • There is no better place to learn surfing than in the "Surf City". Sign up for surfing classes. Surf Riders Academy offers classes for kids and adults alike.
  • Take the kids to swim, skimboard, or boogie board. You can also rent one of the nets and play a game of beach volleyball.
  • Stroll towards the pier and explore different stores and diners, watch the sunset, fly a kite, or go fishing. Alternatively, you can also rent a beach bike and use the 8.5-mile bike lane along the coastline.
  • Reserve a fire pit and end your day at the beach with a warm and nice bonfire. If you brought a grill too, now is the right time to fire it up for that barbecue dinner.
  • Visit the International Surfing Museum and learn the history of Surf City. See surfing memorabilia and read stories from the lives of surf legends.

Huntington Beach Insider Tips

  • Visit the diners by the pier. They serve the best tacos in town.
  • You can bring your pets to the dog-friendly beach at the southern part of the pier.
