Activity Overview

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the largest sports venue in the entire world. This National Historic Landmark is the home of the Indianapolis 500, one of the most famous racing events in the world, as well as the popular annual Brickyard 400 NASCAR event. It has also been used for Formula One and Grand Prix motorcycle racing events. In addition to hosting numerous racing events, it is also home to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum, which contains exhibits focusing on automobiles and racing.

Whether you're a huge racing fan or are new to the spectator sport, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a must-visit Indianapolis attraction. Families are welcome to attend a race, take a tour of the racetrack, or learn about the history of racing in the museum.

Things to Do

  • Attend an event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! If you can't afford to go to the Indianapolis 500 there are plenty of other events during the year, including the Red Bull Indianapolis GP motorcycle race and the Angie's List Grand Prix of Indianapolis. Learn more about events and buy tickets here.
  • Visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum - you'll learn all about cars and racing as you explore their collection of racing memorabilia, old uniforms, and vintage race cars.
  • Go on a Track Tour - you'll get to take a lap of the famous 2.5-mile oval track in a bus and learn all about its history.
