Activity Overview

The Interstate State Park sits on the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota, a situation which gives the park its name. It is along the banks of the St. Croix River which gives kayakers an opportunity to indulge their passion. Aside from the water activities you can also camp in the Park and it is an ideal place to hike.

Things to Do

  • Different events and programs are run in the park throughout the year. For example in October they will have a Fall Family Fun Day, an exploration of the park's amazing glacial potholes and a Fall Colors Photo Scavenger Hunt. Keep an eye on their website to stay abreast of upcoming events leading up to your visit.
  • The Park has a number of recreation facilities. These include specially set aside picnic areas and shelters, volleyball nets and rock climbing facilities. To take part in the Park's rock climbing you must first obtain a free permit from the park office. A brochure with a map of the park's major climbing areas along with advice on safety is available for download from the park's website.
  • There are drive-in campsites as well as group campsites within the park. Showers and flush toilets are available seasonally while vault toilets and dump stations are provided year round.
  • During the winter there are no cross country skiing routes in the park although snowshoeing is permitted. When the weather is a little better there are hiking trails a self-guided trail and a wheelchair trail open to the public though none of these exceed more than 4 miles on their own.

Interstate State Park Insider Tips

  • This park makes a great place to see the change in the Fall colors. Their site even keeps a page which allows visitors to stay updated on the coloration of the leaves, flowers and grass as the season advances.
  • An All Season Map and a Campground Map can both be seen online.
