Activity Overview
If you and your family are looking for something to do in New Orleans, consider heading along to the historic Jackson Square park in the city's famous French Quarter. The French Quarter in New Orleans lives up to its name and Jackson Square was based on Paris' Place des Vosges which was built in the beginning of the 17th century.
While the square had been part of New Orleans since the 18th century, it took nearly one hundred years before the square's name was changed from the French Place des Armes to being named after the United States' 7th President, Andrew Jackson, in 1815. Almost 40 years later the landscaping was completed, making the park appear more "Parisian" and a statue of Jackson was completed in 1856.
The square was over 200 years old when it was recognized as a U.S. National Historic Landmark and appeared on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
