Activity Overview
This zoological park sits on 22 acres and was founded in 1936, making it one of Miami’s first established tourist attractions. The park moved to a new waterfront location in 2003 and was briefly renamed Parrot Jungle Island.
It’s one of the only theme parks or zoos in the United States that is entirely sustainable without the use of pesticides or fertilizers and the dedication to providing a great show is always second to the care and treatment of the animals.
Things to See and Do
- There are a wide array of animals to view at the zoo and a series of exciting shows throughout the day introduces them to visitors with educational presentations by trainers.
- The 900-pound liger, Hercules, is often a favorite exhibit to visit and the Tale of the Tiger show in the Jungle Theatre shows off large cats in a very cool way.
- The Winged Wonders show happens in the Parrot Bowl and features the only trained Cassorwary bird in the world while the Serpentarium houses a huge variety of animals and showcases lots of causal presentations throughout the day.
- Besides all of these fun shows visitors can also interact with animals in the petting zoo.
