Create a little excitement for Mathematics by holding a Math Fact Scavenger Hunt right in your own home. Preparation for this fun game event is easy and only takes about 10 minutes to set up. Why not surprise your child when they get home from school with a scavenger hunt that leads to a small prize at the end?!
If you have multiple children at different levels of Math create one for each of them with skill appropriate Math Facts. This is a great way to practice Math Facts at home in a manner that gets kids excited and boosts their level of interest in Math.
Materials Needed
- Post it notes
- Sharpie Marker
How to Make and Play
- Start by writing an academically appropriate math problem on the front of a post it note. Decorate the post it note to signify it is the first one to start with. You can also write a short message about what the post its signify.
- On the next note, write the answer to the first problem.
- On the back of that second note, write out the second math problem.
- Write the answer to the second math problem on the back of the third post it note.
- Continue writing out the problems and the answers in this manner on the post it notes until you have created at least 10 problems.
- On the back of your last post it note, write out a congratulatory message with a location on where to look for their special small prize.
- Now, write random numbers on the front of some post it notes with nothing on the backs. If these notes are selected as answers, the lack of a problem on the back will cue the player that they must select again and find another answer.
- Post them around an area of your home in random order.
- To start the scavenger hunt,direct your child to the first clue and let them go!
